Rayquaza is the game mascot ofPokémon Emerald, appearing on the boxart of the game. It serves to end the conflict between Kyogre and Groudon whenTeam Magma'south leaderMaxie andTeam Aqua'south leaderArchie awakened them.

Along with Kyogre and Groudon, Rayquaza is a part of thesuper-ancient Pokémon, serving equally itstrio master. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it plays an of import function during the Delta Episode and is required to be caught there to fight Deoxys.

Biology

Rayquaza is a large, green, serpentinePokémon that as well resembles a missile. It has red-tipped, rudder-like wings on its shoulders and down its body, and similarly patterned fins on the tip of its tail. Xanthous ring-like symbols run across the length of Rayquaza'due south body and it has an additional yellow band on summit of its head. Rayquaza has two limbs with three-clawed hands, and two long, flat, horn-like structures on its head, with 2 shorter horns along its jawline. It has modest, yellow eyes with black pupils, prominent pink gums, and two discernible fangs in its upper jaw.

Every bitMega Rayquaza, its body becomes longer and gains more features. Its caput becomes longer with theΔ symbol appearing on its forehead. Rayquaza's eyes now contain yellow pupils and scarlet irises, and black,shichishito-shaped markings trail behind its eyes. Its cherry lips and teeth go gold, and the gold lines connect to those on its lower horns, which take on a broad, triangular shape. At the outer edges of its lower horns are long, golden, glowing tendrils that each extend to a green, fin-like structure; these tendrils take ring patterns that strongly resemble the yellowish markings running forth the length of Rayquaza'due south normal grade. While in flight, these tendrils give Mega Rayquaza aΔ-shaped profile. Its two upper horns get longer with a gold line running over them in a V shape, and each upper horn has another glowing tendril that ends in a circular shape with a fasten. Along the length of its trunk are golden, glowing orbs placed where its band patterns used to be. The mentum, function of the neck, and parts of its serpentine body are inverse to the color black. The fins running along its torso are now marked with gold lines; the fins on its tail become entirely xanthous and substantially longer. Particles stream from the long tendrils that extend from its bulging jaw; these particles can control the density and humidity of the air, assuasive Mega Rayquaza to manipulate the weather. Its dark-green hide sparkles with an emerald-similar quality.[1]

Inside Rayquaza'southward torso lies an organ that contains the same power as aMega Stone. ADevon Corporation scientist named this organ the mikado organ (Japanese:ミカド器官 ). By consuming meteoroids every bit it flies through the stratosphere, the mikado organ will be filled with plenty energy to enable Rayquaza's Mega Evolution.

It is able to soothe the other members of the super-ancient Pokémon, even in theirPrimal Forms. Rayquaza is said to accept lived for hundreds of millions of years in theozone layer, where it feeds on water and other particles. Rayquaza israrely seen by people; even in flight, its advent is duplicate from that of a shooting star. Rayquaza preys on the Minior in theAlolaregion. Rayquaza possesses some of the strongest attack ability out of any Pokémon. Rayquaza is theonly known Pokémon capable of learning the moveDragon Ascent.

Origin

Rayquaza'southward blueprint is probably based on theChinese dragon and theLindworm. Its role is similar to that ofZiz in Hebrew faux histories. Rayquaza matches the description of the Aztec fake animalQuetzalcoatl, who was depicted equally a flight serpent and created the boundary between the earth (including the oceans) and the sky. The markings on Rayquaza'due south body may be inspired from The Nazca Lines. Its trait of existence capable of inhabiting the skies, and living at that place while subsisting on nothing merely dew and particles for centuries, besides bears aspects of the legendary Chinese xian hermit sages and East Asian dragons, specifically Japanese dragons, who are commonly depicted with iii claws, as opposed to four in Chinese dragons.

Name origin

Rayquaza nearly probable refers to Raqiya , the Hebrew word for "empyrean". It likewise may exist a combination of ray  and quasar . Alternatively, it may be a combination of 烈retsu (violent or furious), 空 (heaven), and 座za (seat or location), which tin can be taken to hateful "one that sits in the ferocious heavens".

Rayquaza's mikado organ refers to 帝mikado (emperor), another proper name for theEmperor of Nippon or 天皇tennō in Japanese, which tin can be translated as either "heavenly sovereign" or "male monarch of the heaven/heaven".

Also, one of the names of Xiuhcoatl or Quetzalcoatl in Spanish is "La Serpiente turquesa", which could be next transformed into "La-quesa" and next "Rayquaza".
